Remembering Remy KAL/CAL

Knitting Brooklyn is honored to once again host the Remembering Remy KAL/CAL in conjunction with Tracey (tbmccarthy on Ravelry) founder of Remembering Remy. Born prematurely at 28 weeks, Remy lived for 95 days in NYU's Tisch NICU in NYC. To learn more about Remy's story go to www.ourlittleremy.com

To honor this brave little girl, we will be knitting and crocheting preemie hats to donate to the NICU where Remy spent her life.

This year the KAL/CAL will start on Remy's birthday February 23 and end 95 days later on May 29, the day she passed.
Choose any soft yarn, in any color, and any pattern to knit or crochet hats that will give warmth and love to a premature baby, as well as hope and comfort for their parents.

Each month there will be incentive prizes drawn from the FO thread on the Knitting Brooklyn Ravelry board. Each picture you post will equal another entry into the drawing.

At the end of the KAL/CAL, Tracey has gathered an *amazing* assortment of prizes for those who have participated in Remembering Remy.

While we were in the planning phase for this year's KAL/CAL Tracey shared:

This years twist. Late last year my friend Ty passed away from pediatric cancer at the age of 5. He was a superhero himself, but his favorite was Captain America. You can, and I encourage you to read his story at www.SuperTy.org. His mama is going to do amazing things for pediatric cancer in Ty’s memory.

Remy and Ty are cousins. So their parents would love to somehow incorporate Ty into the KAL this year. Since the pediatric cancer ribbon is gold, instead of asking everyone to knit preemie caps in gold (you still can if you want, but we really just need any color!) we asked for prize donations to somehow incorporate gold. Gold, as you may or may not know, is the ribbon for pediatric cancer. So this year’s KAL we want to also use as an opportunity to raise awareness for pediatric cancer research funding. Because without funding, there is no chance for a cure.

In addition we ask that each of you take a moment and sign this petition to light the White House gold this September to honor pediatric cancer fighters and bring light to the cause.

Stay tuned for an upcoming blog post announcing the amazing prizes that we have in store this year including a fabulous grand prize that those who knit/crochet at least 10 hats will have a chance to win!

With your support, let's make Remembering Remy 2013 a wild success this year!
